JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey set the second fastest time during the MCE British Superbike second practice session, at the opening round at Donington Park, with the Cambridgeshire racer crediting the new Pirelli SC0 tyre with his quick pace this afternoon.
Mossey lapped a 1’29.455 and went inside the 1’29 barrier three times during FP2. His team have not made any major changes to the ZX-10R during the double sessions, but did overcome suspension issues in free practice one.
Mossey still wants to try the SC1 tyre during FP3 on Saturday, as he believes he can still set a strong time to compete with the rest of the field and with his new 2017 team-mate, Leon Haslam.
“It is nice to finish off where we did last year. We didn’t put a new tyre in during the first session so we were doing race runs. The new SC0 is definitely better than last year and is definitely favouring us. That is where we were struggling last year, that we couldn’t make the zero last. We have made a massive step forward with the bike to make the zero work better for us this year,” said Mossey, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track.
“We are going to try the SC1 in the morning, as I still think we can do a good time on that. It is the same every weekend, it always depends on the track temperature. To start the year off with a one-two is a good start.
“I still think due to track temperatures we can use the SC1 still, so we will try that in the morning. We had a few issues this morning with the suspension we made a few changes with that. But apart from that we left the bike with what we had during Spain. We are in better shape than we ever have been going into the season.”
