Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon is third in the overall MCE British Superbike championship standings after the opening round of the series at Donington Park.
Stockport’s finest finished race one in third and just missed out on another rostrum finish in race two. In the final outing the S1000RR racer was in contention for a double podium, but was narrowly pipped to the post by Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin on the last lap.
Iddon did not have the easiest of winter test programmes, and felt that he may have been a bit behind other rider’s going into the first round. For 2017 he has remained with the Tyco team and on the BMW, and his results showed that he kept the pace to be competitive.
“I got the pace and that’s all I could do and I rode at that pace. I was consistent throughout the whole race and never really dropped off at all,” said Iddon at the Leicestershire track.
“We have not had the easiest of winter test programmes - we just fell a bit behind during testing just on what we wanted to get through. The pace of the race worked in my favour and it wasn’t too fast and I just sat on the group.
“Hickman was a big help as he is a big unit and when he passed someone he made a gap so I could get through as well, and the top two boys went ahead in the distance so they were not obtainable so I didn’t think about them at all in race-one. Big thanks to the team too.”
