Brands BSB: 'The bike is really, really strong' - Ellison

JAMES Ellison has revealed a few small tweaks between today’s two MCE British Superbike Championship races at Brands Hatch helped power him to a second place in race two.

The McAMS Yamaha rider crossed the line almost six seconds behind winner Shane Byrne, but admitted that while he was happy with his progress and result, he doesn’t believe his machine was performing to its best.

Instead, he feels there was a little bit missing, as he and the team continue to find the perfect set-up – but is still pleased to have improved on his sixth place in race one.

“There are a few little things we changed between race one and race two which helped us,” he said. “This bike is really, really strong, but there is a small window where it is absolutely phenomenal.

“We don’t often find it, we find it pretty much usually towards the end of a weekend, and when you find that, it becomes an amazing package.

“If you’re just outside that window, it’s still a very, very strong bike, it’s just not got that extra little 10 per cent. We didn’t quite find it this weekend, but we certainly found a strong set up and again we improved between the two races.

“We’ve been working really hard on tyre life this weekend and we got a really strong package towards the end of the race, and I just dug a little bit deeper, tried to calm myself down a little bit and just get the best out of the bike.”
