For Smiths BMW’s Lee Jackson it was a day of firsts. He set a new lap record during the final MCE British Superbike race at Cadwell Park and he secured his best finish of his BSB career, with a spot on the second step of the podium.
The local rider started on pole for race two and he set a phenomenal pace with a 1’26.478 on lap eight, which meant he went a tenth under the existing record held by JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam.
All season the Lincolnshire lad has been chipping away and working hard to gain more confidence on the S1000RR and he was feeling positive ahead of his local round. Everything came together for the Smiths rider and now he wants to build on his good form going into the next round at Silverstone.
“The season started off not so great and we have been chipping away all year and I kept my head down and I knew the time would come eventually. To finally get a second on the podium is awesome,” said Jackson at the circuit.
“Before race one I was feeling confident and before race two I was feeling something and I am mega happy to get a podium at my local track. Right now I am still a bit high on life and I will look back and enjoy it tomorrow.”
