Luke Mossey - Championship position: 6th - Points: 161 - Podium credits: 17
In racing a little error or a small portion of bad luck can go along way. And no-one know this better than Luke Mossey.
The JG Speedfit Kawasaki man was on a crest at the beginning of the season, taking his first win and then doubling it at Brands Indy after a podium at Donington. Two more podiums came before difficult Snetterton and Brands GP races were a precursor to disaster at Thruxton.
Mossey had been the championship leader until his Norfolk woes allowed Shane Byrne to take the lead and then one wheel on the wrong side of the white line in Hampshire saw the Royston rider in hospital with a fractured vertebrae.
The net result was Mossey out of action and unable to score for four races. He slid down the standings and is now in sixth place with a five-point buffer over Jake Dixon and a 58-point deficit to Byrne in top spot. On the plus side, he has 17 podium credits - 14 more than Jason O’Halloran in fourth and eight more than Peter Hickman in third.
Mossey has been in hyperbaric chambers and doing everything else he can to be ready for the Showdown decider at Silverstone.
“The recovery has been going well. I got straight back on my feet and although we had to sit out Cadwell Park, I have been doing everything possible to comeback. Missing Cadwell Park was disappointing as I think we could have had a good result there,” said Mossey.
“I am not worried about Silverstone as we know we have pace and that the JG Speedfit Kawasaki is good. I feel like I have been on vacation so I am coming back refreshed and ready to fight for wins. I think there are some guys around me who have more pressure than me, but it will be an interesting one as there are six to eight guys fighting to make the last positions but I am ready for it.”
