MSS Colchester Kawasaki's Simon Andrews grabbed a third place at Saturday's NGRRC meeting at Oulton Park, riding a standard ZX-10R in the Powerbike class for a feature in Bike magazine.
The Evesham man came from 27th on the grid to third on a totally out-of-the-crate roadbike using road-spec tyres. Andrews just taped up the lights, got his grid position in the qualifying race and picked his way through the field. His best lap was a 1'42.09, compared to winner Richard Cooper's 1'41.05 set on his Superstock-spec Co-ordit Yamaha.
"It was really good fun to be honest. It was interesting making my way through the field on a stock road bike and I had to alter my lines in comparison to what I would do on my racebike," said Andrews, speaking to bikesportnews.com this morning.
"It goes to prove how good the standard bikes are though and I was pretty pleased with the result and the laptime."
