Assen BSB: Bridewell closes the gap on Brookes in Showdown

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Tommy Bridewell has closed the gap in the overall MCE British Superbike championship standings and is now only five points adrift of his team-mate Josh Brookes, who narrowly holds on to third in the Showdown table.

The Devizes lad managed to bag a third place finish in the final race of the day at Assen, and was close to making a move on the front runner, Buildbase BMW’s Ryuichi Kiyonari and the eventual race winner, Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne.

But after 'messing up' the first race and finishing in ninth, Bridewell certainly made up for his earlier mistakes to get himself back on the rostrum. He is feeling happy this evening after a difficult free practice on the Friday – but his team turned things around in time for qualifying on Saturday.

“We struggled on the Friday but the team got the bike perfect for qualifying. I cocked up the first race, but in race two I was much better,” said Bridewell, speaking at the circuit.

“I felt really good on the bike but I couldn’t do enough to catch up with Shakey and Kiyo, but I will soon. I am sitting there patiently and I am waiting, but I knew I had the pace to match Shakey, but he hasn’t won a race for so long, so I let him have it.”
