WFR Honda’s Alex Lowes stormed to his second MCE British Superbikes pole position of the year in a rain affected session at Assen. Lowes posted a laptime of 1’37.390, the fastest of the weekend, to beat fellow Title Fighter Michael Laverty to pole position.

Splitlath Aprilia claimed their first ever British Superbike front row with Jakub Smrz’s one lap talents coming to fruition. The World Superbike exile got the better of reigning Champion Tommy Hill who rounds out the front row.

Tyco Suzuki’s Josh Brookes heads the second row ahead of Luca Scassa and the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki duo of Shane Byrne and Stuart Easton. Supersonic BMW’s Tommy Bridewell heads the third row after betting Peter Hickman with his flying lap.

Qualifying two

Shane Byrne 1’38.169

Michael Laverty 1’38.352

Luca Scassa 1’38.465

Just one flying lap was completed before rain began to fall, brining all twenty riders into pitlane but more importantly it left Samsung Honda’s Michael Laverty in danger of not making it through to Q3. As the rain dried up, Scassa moved up from danger to fourth dropping Josh Brookes into possible elimination. However, with the flag out the two Title Fighters of Brookes and Laverty improved their time to secure their spot in Q3.
