Assen BSB: Not an 'ideal' weekend for Brookes

Tyco Suzuki’s Josh Brookes did not have the best of MCE British Superbike weekend’s at Assen. He failed to make it on to the podium on Sunday, after finishing in fourth in race one and crashed out of third place in race two.

The Bringelly rider was locked in a battle for the final podium spot with his younger team-mate PJ Jacobsen, and Brookes hit the gravel on lap nine at the Geert Timmer chicane, as he carried too much front-brake into the turn and lost the front. His American colleague went on to take his first BSB podium of the year.

With title fighter Samsung Honda’s Alex Lowes excluded from race two after an altercation on track with Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne, Brookes is still in championship contention.

“It certainly wasn’t an ideal weekend for me, but with Alex getting excluded from the race two results we’re still in the championship hunt. The crash in race two was just down to me trying as hard as I could to gain maximum points and I just over-rode slightly,” said Brookes.

“That’s the nature of the Showdown, we all want to win and I’m sure it was great viewing for the fans but the focus is now on Silverstone where we need to be winning races if we’re to go to Brands with a chance of winning this championship.”
