Assen BSB: 'Worst start to a Showdown' for Bridewell

Tyco BMW’s Tommy Bridewell did not have the best of starts to his Showdown campaign during the MCE British Superbike weekend at Assen. The S1000RR rider finished race-one in eighth and crashed out of the final race, hurting his knee in the process.

The Devizes native only bagged eight points on Sunday and drops back to fifth in the overall standings, with his team-mate Michael Laverty leap frogging him in the championship table.

But there are only eight points separating the garage buddies, so it is still all to play for when the pair go into the penultimate round at Silverstone in a few weeks time.

“I’ve got a sore knee and it has been difficult for sure. It is almost the worst start to a Showdown you could hope for,” said Bridewell.

“The team is doing everything that they can and we just are not as strong as we need to be. I am pushing beyond the limit that I should be and I should back it off but as soon as we race I just can’t give less than 110 percent.

“On the bright we scored points and Michael Laverty has an eight points gap on me which is nothing, but, we all want to win. We just have to keep working to be more consistent.”
