For the first time since 2015, Billy McConnell stood on a British Superbike podium at Thruxton. The last time McConnell stood on a BSB podium was at Cadwell Park for the Smiths Racing BMW Team. After an outstanding first 20 BSB races with the C&L Fairburn Properties/Look Forward Racing Honda Team McConnell has been rewarded with silverware.
McConnell joined the C&L Fairburn Properties /Look Forward Racing Honda squad in the 2022 season. The team supported McConnell throughout two seasons in the British Superstock Championship, before moving to British Superbikes. After getting his first BSB podium with the team McConnell could not be more grateful for the opportunities they have given him:
“Big thanks to C&L Fairburn/Look Forward and the whole team. We started off with Superstock then next thing you know we’re in Superbike two years later, so big thanks to the team.”
On Saturday McConnell finished in fifth place in the opening race of the weekend after battling with seven riders for the podium.
“The first race we thought we had a good race as well, unfortunately, Kyle got us on the last corner. I was happy to settle in second and Ryan gave us a bit of a nudge into the next left and then pushed me onto the painted green lines, and then lost all my drive into there, but if I said I was going to get fifth in the first race I would have been happy with that!”
After qualifying in third place, and finishing in fifth in Race One and Race Two, the Australian was determined to claim a podium in the final race of the weekend.
“Obviously your expectations go up as you get a better result! From the first part of the weekend we knew we had a good bike, the Honda’s work really well. I can’t fault the teams performance, all my mechanics, all my sponsors, it’s nice to put some silverware back in the pocket for them”.
