Airwaves Ducati's Leon Camier is a happy boy. He started the season injured after a big crash during testing at Calafat in Spain, couldn't take part in the official BSB test at Snetterton - but he is fit now and heading for his home race this weekend second in the British Superbike rankings.
But he won't have it his own way. Team-mate Shane Byrne is also local to the Kent track and is desperate to keep up his winning ways - looking for another brace of wins to add to his Oulton tally.
Camier said: Oulton Park has given me a lot of confidence going into this weekend. I am second in the championship and I am pleased that I head to Brands Hatch in that position; it is my home circuit and I have done well there in the past, including getting on the podium in my first ever BSB race there last year. When we had qualifying back in early April I was not 100% fit but I am much better now and I am confident I will be up there fighting for podium spots this weekend.”
Because the qualifying times set at Brands in April still stand, Byrne will start the 20-lap races from pole position with Leon Camier in sixth.
Byrne said: "It is going to be a different kind of event as there is no qualifying and only two practice sessions but I will approach it as I would any other race weekend. I was quickest in all the sessions there last month and the Airwaves Ducati 1098R is feeling so good now so I am aiming to leave Brands Hatch with more championship points.”
