Anvil TAG Kawasaki’s Richard Cooper bagged two podium spots in at the MCE Brands Hatch double header and says he will remember the day for the rest of his life.
Cooper has fought his way back from an horrendous crash at Thruxton last year which almost ended his career and he looked strong enough to put a pass on Shane Byrne at the end of race two for second but his front tyre just wasn’t up to it.
“I wanted to go home after race one! The bike was perfect, we didn’t change anything for race two as it is better to stick with what we know. The second race pace was about the same and I wanted Shane to go with Josh to pull me away from the fight for fourth,” said Cooper, speaking at the track.
“When I got 0.5s on my board, I relaxed and ran with them and I really thought I could have a go at Shane at one point. It got to lap 18 and I was up for it, but then the front was gone, I tucked it a couple of times and then followed him home.
“It’s been an amazing day, one I will remember for the rest of my life.”
Cooper’s 32 point haul has brought him right into Showdown contention as he now sits 23 points behind Tommy Bridewell in sixth place.
