Brands BSB: Bird takes hands-on approach

PBM team owner Paul Bird has decided that he will take a "hands on" approach to managing his racing teams this season. His decision prompted the departure of former team manager Paul Risbridger after two years with PBM and it follows the appointment of experienced Mick Shanley as crew chief to James Ellison and the PBM CRT team.

"I decided there could only be one boss. We were not good enough last year. It was difficult with Kawasaki but too many people making decisions, or not; too many hangers on in the pit garage. It has to change because this year we are going to win things - not in MotoGP, that's learning for next year, but certainly in BSB," said Bird.

"We have the bikes, and we definitely have the riders. Whatever anyone else thinks, Shakey Byrne is the best rider in the series and Stuart Easton still has the greatest potential when he gets one or two rides under his belt. He will surprise a lot of people.

"Michael Laverty and Honda are the greatest threat. Haga? He blows hot and cold. I can't see it. We can't wait to get to Brands Hatch. It's the most professional, and competitive, championship in the world. And unlike World Superbikes there's no cheating."
