Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki's Shane Byrne has done the MCE British Superbike double at Brands Hatch today in a carbon copy of the race one result and takes his career tally to 37 championship wins.
Byrne grabbed the lead from Samsung Honda's Michael Laverty at Hawthorn Bend on lap one and never looked back, fending off a couple of charges from Josh Brookes on the Tyco Suzuki late on to take maximum points while Tommy Hill added another third place to his first race result.
Brookes was looking for any which way to get past the Kent man even going as far as trying around the outside a Paddock to get the drive up Hailwood Hill but, as with race one, couldn't find a way past the ZX-10R as Byrne has a sweeping line into the Druids hairpin which stops the usual dive up the inside on the brakes.
As the laps counted down, Brookes again ran out of rear tyre and just couldn't hold on, crossing the line 1.5s behind Byrne with reigning champion and series leader Hill a further half a second back. Laverty managed to keep ahead of Noriyuki Haga on the second Swan Yamaha as the Japanese man adds to his Showdown tally.
WFR Honda's Alex Lowes took sixth place while Tommy Bridewell nosed ahead of Ian Lowry at the line for seventh by just 0.001s. Graeme Gowland and James Westmoreland rounded out the top ten with Alastair Seeley and the returning Karl Harris in 12th.
