Tyco BMW's Michael Laverty left his best performance for last, as he bagged his maiden race win of the year in the final MCE British Superbike race at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

It has been a steady year for the Wales-based rider on the S1000RR, but since the round at Assen Laverty has clicked with the BMW after receiving some new parts, including a factory swing-arm which has helped the rider gain some extra race-pace to challenge for podiums.

Laverty was consistent this year and made his way into the Showdown alongside team-mate Tommy Bridewell, and his Tyco team were the only outfit to get two riders into the top six, and in a position to fight for the title.

In the end the Northern-Irishman finished fourth in the overall standings with 601 points, after a brace of solid results throughout the Showdown rounds. He just missed out on third in the series, which in the end went to JG Speedfit Kawasaki's James Ellison.

"We have been building over the last three rounds but I thought a win would be a bit of a stretch too far. But I really wanted it and I got to the front early and credit to the boys as they improved the bike in between races," said Laverty, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.

"It is a bit frustrating that the season has come to an end as we are only just getting comfortable on the bike over the last couple of rounds. It does bode well for next season if we stay together. I will go into the winter happy now and I think there is a lot of potential for the Tyco BMW.

"But I am over the moon to get back on to the top step and to get that win is great as  I haven't been there for a few years - and it is a perfect way to round out the season."
