Brands BSB: 'Didn't think we were going to get pole' - Mossey

Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey did not think he would be starting the opening MCE British Superbike race from pole position, but he ended up going one tenth faster than Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne, to bag P1 in the Superpole session at Brands Hatch.

The Panigale of Byrne set the fastest lap ever seen in BSB around the GP track in FP3, and the rider set the pace in Q1 and Q2, so Mossey believed Byrne would ‘blitz’ Superpole too.

But it was not the easiest of sessions for Mossey, as in Q2 he experienced a technical issue with the throttle on his ZX-10R, and his crew had to gaffer tape it together in order to be ready for the final session.

Whatever his team did it worked, as his super quick 1’25.383 meant that he soared to pole and was also under lap record pace too, which is quite the turnaround for the Cambridgeshire racer as he had engine braking issues on Friday, which have now been rectified.

“Yesterday I was not too happy with the bike at all. We had a lot of trouble with engine braking. We put the same setting in for Brands Indy and we got pole here last time but it was completely off. I felt like I was on the back foot, especially after a crash in free practice two,” said Mossey at the circuit.

“I didn’t think we were going to get pole to be fair. I think the first two rows I was going to be happy with. To be sitting here in pole position makes me feel over the moon. To be fair to Shakey I thought he was going to blitz it but the track was quite greasy this afternoon, compared to the morning session, and tomorrow is going to be two hard races and I am looking forward to it.”
