JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Ellison once again topped the MCE British Superbike free practice time sheets, for the second time this weekend at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.
In a repeat of FP1 the Cumbrian set the fastest time, and in the final timed session lapped a 45.492, out pacing Tyco BMW’s Michael Laverty and Bennetts Suzuki’s Tommy Bridewell in the process.
The Northern Irishman went P2 with a 45.573, with the Devizes swearbox going one tenths slower than the BMW rider. Shane Byrne won the battle of the Be Wiser Ducati bikes, but only by the smallest of margins, as the multiple-champ went 0.01s faster than his young gun team-mate, Glenn Irwin, with the rookie completing the top five.
Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey, Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon, Buildbase BMW’s Richard Cooper and Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran rounded up the top nine.
JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam ended FP3 in the gravel after a crash at Clearways just as the chequered flag appeared, whilst he was tenth quickest overall, but he was not injured. The times were so close during the session and only three tenths separated the top ten.
Smiths Racing’s Jakub Smrz crashed at the Cooper Straight in the opening moments of the final practice session, and was unhurt. Then fifteen minutes later his younger brother Matej Smrz crashed as well, but at Clearways.
