Championship favourite Leon Haslam says he plans to take as few risks as possible tomorrow in a bid to clinch his first Bennetts British Superbike title at Brands Hatch.
The JG Speedfit Kawasaki man ended the day sixth quickest after working on his tyre pace throughout today.
With his 61-point lead, he knows the title is there for the taking tomorrow afternoon, but tonight admitted he will be playing it as safe as possible in a bid to avoid a similar situation to last year.
“Obviously you don’t want to take too many risks,” he said. “If I had to go out there and win all three races I’d have to take a lot of risks but I’m in a good position where I don’t have to do that.
“But at the same time I want to win still. I’m going to do whatever we can to achieve that and let’s just see what happens.”
Haslam is so far refusing to let the pressure get to him, and believes that he needs to look at tomorrow’s race as he would any other and if it doesn’t happen tomorrow, he’ll get up on Sunday and do it all again.
“I’m trying to just approach it as any other weekend, I’m wanting to go out and get at least one win out of the three and so far so good we’re working well.
“My main focus is to just continue doing what we’ve been doing, it’s worked so far with the 14 wins and it would be nice to get a few more to add to that tally.
“But it is what it is. I’ve got to get a third if he wins but there’s a lot of other people who are fast here on other bikes. I feel like I’m going to be within the fight so we’ll just have to see what tomorrow brings and we’ll go from there.”
