Brands BSB: Game of two halves for Ellison

Anvil TAG Racing's James Ellison experienced a weekend of two halves at the Brands Bennetts British Superbike round and is still searching for more front-end feel despite the help of new forks.

Ellison began Friday with new K-tech spenders which, after testing at Donington, gave him more of what he needs up front but then a crash and a spot of brake failure set him on a downward slope.

"The weekend started off really strongly. We put the new K-tech forks in to try and give me a little bit more feel, which is what we’ve been looking for and were only 0.2 off the top," said Ellison.

“We we’re struggling with the softer front tyre on corner entry, so I made the call in qualifying to run the SC2 front. I went out in Q1 and got through to Q2 and went for a build-up lap. I didn’t really feel like I was pushing, and I crashed as soon as I put angle on the bike. That was the downward slope to our weekend.

“Race one I had a lot of hard work to do. I felt I had a really, really good bike. I picked my way through, and worked my way into 10th and then on lap five I had no brakes, they failed so I had to pull in.

"Race two starting from 12th put us in a good position and we had a really, really good fight but you have to qualify well in BSB. I’m still lacking something with front end and we have some new things to try engine wise, which we will have for Thruxton, we just need to move the power around to have more mid-range power. I can’t thank the team enough we have a great bike, I’m just disappointed that I couldn’t deliver the points they deserve.”
