FHO BMW’s Peter Hickman is intent on bouncing back from his Bennetts British Superbike disappointment at Knockhill where raw speed couldn’t outpace circumstance.
If it could have gone wrong for Hickman and the team in Scotland it did, but the slimmed-down Louth resident is intent on returning to the podium and possibly giving BMW its first win at Brands since 2016.
“Knockhill did absolutely not go my way at all, but it wasn’t because we weren’t fast, so it is definitely a better position to be in than some of our competitors that’s for sure. I was happy with my performance, I was just unhappy with the results at Knockhill as we had more than what it shows,” said Hickman.
“Everywhere we have been so far, and every test that we have done, I have been really happy – we have been competitive with the fight for not only the podium, but also the win so I am in a really good place at the moment and excited about the rest of the championship.
“The plan is definitely to try and bounce back this weekend at Brands Hatch; it was a weird Knockhill but I feel strong and good, so want to rack up those podiums as that is what makes championships and that is what we need.
“Maybe it is a slightly different me this year; I am lighter and fitter than I have ever been but I think also the changes that we have implemented on the bike and what BMW have done from their side has definitely helped. There are all little bits, but in this sport that makes a massive difference at the end of the day and that is why I think we are competitive. I want to be on the podium in all three races at Brands Hatch, that’s for sure.”
