Brands BSB: Lowes 'chuffed' with double podium

Samsung Honda rider Alex Lowes could not be happier with his start to the MCE British Superbike campaign.

The Lincolnshire lad claimed two second-placed podiums this weekend, making him second overall in the championship standings, and only one point behind leader Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne. But even with his positive results Lowes was still shocked by the fast pace of the racing today.

“I am chuffed to bits with two podiums, and the race was difficult for me, but I got a decent start but I was not ready for the pace to be as quick as it was straight away. I was caught off guard a bit and I spent the last twenty five laps trying to get that half a second back," said  Lowes at the circuit this afternoon.

“I would like to have been a bit closer, but James was awesome and he got to the front and the times he was doing were really impressive. But I am really happy and if I can get on the podium a bit more and battle with Shakey and James and the other boys, I will really enjoy it, but it is a great day for me and hopefully I can continue like this.”

The championship’s next round is at Thruxton, and the rider is prepared for next week’s race meeting, but he understands that the racing in the BSB championship is of an extremely high calibre this year, and acknowledges that Thruxton is quite a complex track.

“Thruxton is a track I really enjoy and you need a big pair of balls because Thruxton is a very fast track. But there is more to it than that, it is quite technical, but I am looking forward to next week and I think it is going to be a really good championship.”
