Brands BSB: Lowes hails ‘incredible’ championship

Samsung Honda’s Alex Lowes is still on a high after winning the MCE British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch this afternoon, in very difficult wet conditions.

The Derby lad managed to get the better of Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne in the final race of the day to take a second place victory, which was enough for him to go seven points clear in the championship, and take the title.

Lowes has praised the triple champ and used the rider as inspiration to better himself and be the champion that he has become. The title went down to the wire on the final race and it was not an outing that the youngster particularly enjoyed because of the torrential down pour that occurred moments before the race began, but Lowes has hailed his victory as simply ‘incredible’.

“It is incredible and it was always going to be difficult this weekend and then with the weather playing a big part it is really hard to enjoy races like that and it is easy to make a mistake. I passed Shakey at the end and pushed as hard as I could. I owe a lot to Shakey as he has made me the rider that I am, ten years ago I watched him do the double in the World Superbikes as a wild card and I have learnt off him and he has made me a better rider," said Lowes, at the circuit.

“The middle part of the year was good for me, and I kept up the good form. But Josh has been incredible this weekend and has not made a mistake, and I have enjoyed racing with everyone. My brother Sam would have given me a lot of stick if I didn’t win the championship but I managed to get out on top, and now he can't give me too much.”
