MAP Raceways Yamaha rider Billy McConnell has taken the opening British Supersport pole position at Brands Hatch today, beating last year's runner -up Hudson Kennaugh by two-tenths of a second.
The Aussie, who has returned to 600s after an horrendous year in British Superbikes last season, made up for his below-par peformance yesterday, scorching to the top of the timesheets with a 46.788-second lap while Kennaugh put in a 46.986.
NW200 Yamaha's Dan Linfoot was third in his debut Supersport qualifying session, setting a 46.999 laptime which was only two-tenths off McCConnell's pace.
McConnell said: “That session is what the team deserves after all the work they have put into the bike. We hoped it would be dry today and we improved from 10th position yesterday to pole position today.
"After the bad year I had last year it is great that the team have faith in me and they have put a big effort into the testing and the bike so I want to repay the favour. I’ve got a good set-up for the race and I know my bike is fast as I can pass people on the straight. I feel good for the race the race but points make prizes.”
