MAP Raceways rider Billy McConnell has taken the first British Supersport win of the 2009 British Superbike season, taking the lead from Dan Linfoot on the final lap to win by a tenth of a second.
In a lights-to-flag thriller, the Aussie led from halfway through lap two with Linxcel-Seton Yamaha's Hudson Kennaugh sitting in third and Linfoot waiting in the wings just behind.
On lap three, Linfoot went to the front and made his NW200 Yamaha as wide as possible until the start of the very last lap when McConnell went past into Paddock Hill bend.
HM Plant Honda's Steve Plater, who is also racing in British Superbike this weekend at Josh Brookes' stand-in, got off to a slow start but gradually made his way through the field and, and backmarkers came into play, caught up to the leading group with three laps to go.
He passed Kennaugh on lap 22 before then going underneath Linfoot into Druids on the final lap but McConnell just had the edge through Surtees and Clark to take the win.
