Brands BSB: O'Halloran 'happy' with his pace on worn tyres

Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran was the second fastest rider in this afternoon's MCE British Superbike free practice session, and the Australian is one happy rider this evening as he had a good pace on worn tyres and felt confident with tyre life towards the end of FP2.

O’Halloran’s 1’25.675 meant that he went quicker than he has ever done around the GP track, but his crew did make some changes for the second free practice session. The Honda man recently completed a successful test at Cadwell Park and his team came to the track with the bike setup from the test, but it did not work quite as planned.

So the boys in his garage ‘flattened the bike out’ to suit the track and in the end he was only five tenths off the best lap of Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne.

“We didn’t make massive changes, but what we did this morning was that we came here with the bike that we tested at Cadwell Park last week. I wanted to do that as I had a good test and felt really comfortable on the bike,” said O’Halloran, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track.

“But this morning it didn’t quite work all together - I didn’t have that flow and I couldn’t connect the track together so I felt I was 50ping it everywhere and I didn’t feel that I was flowing. So we just made a small change and flattened the bike back out like we usually do at Brands and straight away I felt good this afternoon and not a million miles away from where we were this morning but just made the track connect itself.

“I had good pace on worn tyres and I am more happy about that than I am about my finally position lap time, and that our tyre life was really good and I felt solid towards the end of the session before we went on to our new tyre and managed to do a 5’6.

“I know that Shakey has got a little bit of time on us and we have still got some work to do and in general it has been a good day. It is the fastest I have been at Brands, and much faster than what I did in qualifying last year and I felt comfortable doing so and did it on my own and it was encouraging and I didn’t get a tow either.”
