BRANDS BSB: PARKES TOPS SECOND FREE PRACTICE

PBM Kawasaki's Broc Parkes is sitting at the top of the British Superbike second free practice timesheets at Brands Hatch this afternoon with team-mate Sheridan Morais in close attendance.

The factory World Superbike pairing are more than half-a-second quicker than the Hydrex Honda of Stuart Easton who is, in turn, two tenths faster than Worx Suzuki's Tommy Hill.

Parkes started the dry 50-minute session at the top of the leaderboard with a 1'28.984 with Quay Garage Honda's Gary Mason just behind. The MSS Kawasaki of Julien Da Costa then went quickest but Parkes was back at the top five minutes later.

The Australian then set a string of laps which saw his laptimes fall to 1'27.885 as series leader Leon Camier came out on rack and immediately put himself in second with a 1'28.021.

On the half hour, Hill put himself at the top of the pile with a 1'27.694 but Parkes was soon back in first position with a 1'27.183. With 15 minutes  to go, Parkes then set his quickest lap of 1'26.910 and was the only rider inside on 1'27 barrier.

Morais cemented his second place with nine minutes left and Easton left it until only a handful of laps remained to take his third. Motorpoint Yamaha's Chris Walker, who was quickest in this morning's damp session, is at the head of a theoretical second row with Da Costa, HM Plant Honda's Karl Muggeridge and Simon Andrews' stand-in Michael Rutter.

There will be some head-scratching in the Airwaves Yamaha garage this evening as Camier could only manage ninth place, a second off Parkes' pace and James Ellison only did four laps.
