ViSK BRITISH SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP
Tom Tunstall – Hardinge Doodson Motorsport (Q=18th, R1=DNF, R2=DNS)
“Of course I’m gutted not to come away with the results we were capable of and the team deserved but, as the phrase goes – That’s racing!! Even though it’s been a tough weekend I have proved what I am capable of and I’m already looking forward to the next round to show what we can do.”
Julien da Costa - MSS Colchester Kawasaki (Q=16th, R1=11th, R2=10th)
"We are very, very close to a perfect bike. You only need to look at the times and speed trap figures to see this. Next time we qualify where we belong and then we will see very different results."
Simon Andrews - MSS Colchester Kawasaki (Q=15th, R1=7th, R2=11th)
"Oh for a good shoulder. It’s such a physical track, particularly in the direction changes and braking areas. I’m pleased with points but I’m more than pleased with the team and the bike’s performance and potential. Damn, it’s fast."
RELENTLESS BRITISH 125GP
Brian Clark – Banks Racing/Express Racewear (Q = DNS, R=DNS)
“With the weather improving our last free practice session was almost completely dry. We were running in the top five and had just moved up to second quickest when as I entered Turn one, Paddock Hill I passed another rider late and had to tighten my entry line just running close to the damp part of the circuit, as I came back to the throttle to exit the turn the rear tyre gave a small slide bringing me out of the seat.”
“I instantly shut the throttle to save it as so many times before I had, unfortunately the rider I had just passed was so close he ran into the rear of my machine sending me over the bars and down the very steep gradient that is Paddock Hill. Dusty and dazed I limped back to the Team awning disgusted with myself that I had started the season so badly, my arm and ankle throbbing. Gladly I was soon informed that it was out of my control but as my wrist began to swell I soon realized that the blame was the least of my worries.”
METZELER NATIONAL SUPERSTOCK 600
Nick Clark – Linxcel-Seton Tuning (Q=2nd, R=DNF)
“Obviously this wasn’t how I wanted to start the season, however by putting in these lap times, I think that the Linxcel-Seton Tuning team and I have proved we are real championship contenders. This gives me great confidence for the next round. Last year I was lapping within a second of the course record at Oulton Park on my own prepared bike. Now, I have the backing of the most progressive team in the series and there is massive potential.”
FUCHS-SILKOLENE BRITISH SUPERSPORT CHAMPIONSIP
Hudson Kennaugh – Linxcel-Seton Tuning (Q=2nd, R=4th)
“Fourth place gives us some good points in the bag. The Linxcel-Seton Tuning team have really stepped up over the winter period and it’s showed today. We’ve gelled really well as a team and this will undoubtedly bode well for the remainder of the season.”
Chris Martin – Gearlink Kawasaki (Q=5th, R=DNF)
We had a good qualifying and built on that with a really good start to the race. But I think we had a bit of a dodgy tyre and I went down at Druids. It just chattered from the word go, I just went in on the brakes and down I went. But that’s racing for you.
Ben Wilson – Gearlink Kawasaki (Q=7th, R=DNF)
“I got away to a good start and was up into the lead straight away. I felt comfy on the bike and knew I had the right tyre to go the distance but it wasn’t to be. Although it was disappointing not to complete my first race for the team we have to look at the bigger picture, take the positives from Brands and move on to Oulton Park in the knowledge tat we have the pace to run at the front and the Gearlink Kawasaki machine has the potential to win races. We just need to iron out a few teething troubles and we will be there”
David Hallett – Team Co-Ordit (Q=30th, R=22nd)
“Having never really ridden the R6 before, we were always going to be up against it but as the weekend progressed so did we. We found a great setting that comfortably saw us run in the top ten in the wet. We had to gamble on a dry setting for the 25 lap race. Although our Team Co-ordit Ross Aldridge Silicitors Yamaha wasn’t quite perfect we got full race distance under our belts and lots of info to work with for the next round at Oulton Park in a few weeks.”
METZELER NATIONAL SUPERSTOCK 1000
Conor Cummins – Team Blackhorse Yamaha (Q=11th, R=13th)
“Conor got a good start and crossed the line in tenth position at the end of lap one, by lap two he had dropped one place to 11th and remained in this position for the next five laps. By three quarters race distance he was suffering with an increasing lack of grip on the R1, and with the rear sliding felt unable to really press on as he would have liked. He found himself in the company of Jimmy Storrar, Matt Layt and James Hurrell for that 11th spot with Daniel Brill holding on to a relatively secure 10th. A hard fought battle ensued, with Conor eventually bringing the bike home in a safe 13th.”
Richard Cooper – Team Co-ordit (Q=2nd, R=2nd)
“This was a good weekend from start to finish for me and the team. I have trained hard throughout the winter and the team has worked hard to make the new R1 as competitive as possible through testing. From the off I had never been out of the top two, and set a new lap record on the way to second in the race. This is a perfect start to the 2009 season with Team Co-ordit.”
