Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne made it on to the front row through the MCE British Superbike qualifying sessions for the first time this season, and will start race-one at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit from third on the grid, at his local round.
Byrne lapped a 45.389 after his team reverted back to a similar bike set-up that they had in FP2 yesterday, and for the multiple-champ the front row start shows that his team are making progress with his Ducati Panigale.
The racer is under no illusions just how tight the double-header will be on Sunday and he wants a good start so that he can fight for the win at the Kent circuit, as even a thousandths of a second could be the difference between a win or a loss tomorrow.
“I forgotten how to get here to be honest [on the front row]. There have been two rounds this year and I have been no where near the front row and it shows the progress that we have been making, and to do it here is quite good - every thousandths of a second counts around here,” said Byrne, at the track.
“We did a good lap time here in the dry and knew we could improve on it but we tried something this morning on the bike and it helped in some areas but made it more difficult to do a lap time and we reverted back to where we were yesterday. But there are still some bits and pieces that we need to do to improve the bike and get a good start.”
