HM Plant Honda's Josh Brookes is fed up. The likeable Aussie knows and accepts he is to blame for taking Simon Andrews out during the first British Superbike race at Mallory Park last weekend but insists he isn't a bad guy or a loose cannon.
In an exclusive interview with bikesportnews.com, Brookes said: "OK, I made a mistake at Mallory Park, there's no getting away from that. I am so sorry that I took Simon out but I was on a part of the track I hadn't used before.
"Walker went out wider than I have seen anyone go before so I went up the inside close to him. I was going in very hot but the bump on the entry kicked my bike sideways and I was a passenger. I don't know the track that well and to be honest the place is dangerous.
"This crash has been taken out of proportion. I was not to blame for the incident at Donington Park. I want to make it very clear that my brakes failed and there was nothing I could do. I have said I am very sorry about Sylvain.
"If that hadn't happened, then this crash would be taken as a sole incident and there wouldn't be so much crap flying around. I put my hands up to this one but Donington wasn't me, it was the bike. Plain and simple.
"I have talked with Simon, who is the only rider I actually caused to fall off, and he is fine. He said it was a racing crash and he wasn't injured. The rest of the guys fell off on oil or petrol or something."
