BSB bosses ‘collaborating’ on British Talent Cup ideas

MCE British Superbike series director Stuart Higgs is supporting the new Dorna British Talent Cup idea and is in talks to help the Spanish firm bring the project to fruition as soon as they can.

Higgs and his Motorsport Vision team already run two events for Dorna in Britain - MotoGP Silverstone and Donington WorldSBK - and he is also an FIM steward so is in regular contact with the world championship rights holders already. The Talent Cup will almost certainly have to be run at a couple of BSB events and a lot of details have to squared up but Higgs is pleased to be involved.

Our involvement is yet to be defined. We’ve known about the project since the British Grand Prix last year when we had some preliminary meetings with Dorna management. We have exchanged quite a lot of information, we have got some idea, they have got some ideas,” Higgs told BSN.

“This is a very relevant time for BSB and Dorna to be working together with the recent addition of Donington Park to the MSV portfolio. We are now a promotor of the WorldSBK UK round and lest we forget Dorna were BSB’s promoters from 2004 to 2007 and we also run the Dorna events in the UK, so we are talking to them all the time.

“They have been very respectful of the situation in Britain. It’s not like the Asia Talent Cup where there is nothing similar at such a high level existing in that region. The UK is a mature motorsport market, Carmelo Ezpeleta is recognised it as probably the most knowledgeable audience in the world and it could be the reference for future projects in other countries.

“It is important to start with a good level of circuits and promotion and existing collaborations. There are still some things to be done and there are external factors to consider such as TV production. It is at an early stage but it is a long-term project. We will continue our talks with Dorna and hopefully something that works for everyone will come to fruition.”
