BSB SNETTERTON: DOUBLE FOR AIRWAVES, WIN FOR SHAKEY

Airwaves Ducati dominated the wet session, this time with Shane Byrne winning taking the double away from his team mate Leon Camier in second and HM Plant Honda Cal Crutchlow taking his first podium of the day in third.
Once the 15 lap race commenced Camier took the lead from the start and kept it for most of the race, Karl Harris of AIM Yamaha followed in second into the first corner with Shakey behind. The first lap wasn't without incident Scott Smart went down at the first corner and slid trapped under the bike, fortunately ok he tried to re-enter the race, but it wasn't to be.
Harris then highsided in front of Bryne and slid directly in front of him, Shakey successfully stopped in time allowing him to avoid Harris and continue on with the race. This changed the leading five to Camier, Cal Crutchlow, Michael Rutter, Leon Haslam and Tom Sykes, whilst Byrne had to do the work all over again by which time Leon Camier had a lead of about two seconds.
Shakey started his attack starting with Tom Sykes at Russell Bends on lap three for fifth position, amazed by how little the incident with Harris had actually cost him he then believed a win was possible. On lap nine Byrne and Leon Haslam were side by side down Revett Straight, Haslam defended at the Esses and Coram, but lost fourth position as they came round to Russells on lap ten.
By lap 12 Shakey was ahead of Cal Crutchlow before hunting down his team mate and attacking him on lap 14 again at the Esses after entering the corner three bikes together as the team mates overtook a back marker.
Michael Laverty of Relentless Suzuki and Michael Rutter of North West 200 swapped places a couple of times with Rutter winning out. Rutter finished fourth overall ahead of Leon Haslam who had to settle for fifth, but ahead of Laverty. Guy Martin had his second retirement of the day half way through the race.
It was a double win for Gary Mason and Quay Honda Racing, a double second for John Laverty on the North West 200 Ducati and a double third for Tom Tunstall on the Hardinge Ice Valley Motorsport Honda for the Daily Star up riders.British Superbikes Race 2 - conditions wet1 Shane Byrne Airwaves Ducati 18'41.592
