BSB teams to chase the sun as big freeze continues

Continuing Baltic weather conditions have rendered the MCE British Superbike UK tests next to useless forcing many teams to desperately seek quality track time prior to the series season opener at Brands Hatch on April 5/6/7.

No British Superbike teams took to the track at Snetterton yesterday and with temperatures set to continue to settle just above freezing for the ten days there were discussions between series organisers MSVR and the teams with options including going to Cartagena next week, although the series' front runners may not take up the option.

Samsung Honda boss Havier Beltran said his testing plan was in place and he wouldn't be going abroad, Milwaukee Yamaha have a test booked at Cadwell Park next week while Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki have already been to Spain – leaving their Motec ECU behind to make sure they didn't break the rules.

"We have a responsibility to the teams to make sure they have the opportunity to be fully ready for the first round at Brands Hatch. Obviously, this current, ongoing weather has caused significant damage to some teams preparations so we are favourable to any collective request to help teams get the track time they need. In fact I’ve just arranged some track time for Martin Jessopp’s team at Cartagena next weekend," said series boss Stuart Higgs, speaking to bikesportnews.com at Snetterton this morning.

"We’ve been very unlucky this year as this corresponding test 12 months ago was run in 15 degrees air temperature. The teams themselves favoured the UK only route for this season and we were happy to go along with it on the merits of keeping a lid on costs. It's been an ugly topic as events have conspired against us. The priority is to be fully ready for Brands Hatch."
