FS-3 Kawasaki's Danny Buchan is going to play this weekend's Silverstone Bennetts British Superbike triple-header as smartly as he can as he hunts for a place in the 2018 Showdown.
Buchan slipped out of the top six after a crash at Cadwell Park saw him drop down to seventh place behind Peter Hickman but the Kent man has a good record at the Northamptonshire track and needs to pull back seven points on the Smiths BMW man.
“I am going to play it smart at Silverstone. I have been in this position before and I have had the pressure when I have been fighting for the title in Superstock where you have a really important race and I think I perform in those circumstances. I always say to Jake (Dixon) you either sink or swim and to me I am a swimmer," said Buchan.
“To me I like to think that and I have made this hard for myself or harder for the team but it is like anything in this championship – anything can happen. There can be a crash, a bike failure, weather, anything and with three races anything can happen and that is the beauty of bike racing, you just never know what to expect.
“To be in the Showdown would mean a lot and would be a reward for the team and all the hard work they have put in, it shows that consistency pays off and it would be the biggest thing for my career so far. It makes you more of a valuable asset for next season too but it will be what it will be as long as I give it one hundred percent you can’t give it any more. I just can’t afford to make any silly little mistakes like I did at Cadwell Park but I am hoping we do it – it's seven points from three races.”
