McAMS Yamaha’s Josh Brookes managed to salvage some fast laps from an otherwise tough weekend to put himself into contention for race two but a bike malfunction put paid to a big points haul at the Cadwell Park Bennetts British Superbike round.
Brookes struggled for speed in free practice and qualified in ninth but a fast lap in race one, where he finished tenth saw him start race two from the second row but he ended up coasting into the pits.
“This hasn’t been a great weekend, we’ve been playing catch up all the way through and we obviously should have been stronger in race one. After some changes in the break the bike felt more my own and we were turning in fast laps and battling hard but then disaster,” said the Australian.
Brookes has now slipped behind Glenn Irwin in the points table but should still be confident of a Showdown place.
