Cadwell BSB: Byrne quickest in second timed practice

Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne was only two tenths shy of his own out-right lap record during the second MCE British Superbike free practice session at Cadwell Park this afternoon.

The multiple champ lapped a quick 1’26.291, four-tenths faster than Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey, who set the second quickest time at the Lincolnshire track.

Buildbase BMW’s Richard Cooper was up the sharp end throughout, and ended the day third after a 1’26.940 lap. Initially it was JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam who topped the free practice timesheets, then with 23 minutes on the clock Byrne went quickest his lap.

The fastest rider in the opening session, Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran, did crash unhurt at Mansfield but he was able to get back on his bike to make it to the pits to start going around the track again, after being cleared by technical support. The hometown hero did finish the session inside the top four with a 1’26.964.

Buildbase BMW’s Lee Jackson had some solid form out on track and once again set a respectable time, with a 1’27.061, with Haslam, Bridewell, Iddon, Ellison and Dixon, McConnell, Linfoot, Laverty and Tsingtao’s newest rider Danny Buchan completing the top fifteen.

With three minutes left to the final practice session rain started to fall in sector one, and then eventually all sectors, so no rider was able to better their previous lap times, so Byrne remained top of the timing screens.

Moto Rapido Ducati’s newbie racer, Stuart Easton ended the final session in twentieth, with ePayMe Yamaha’s stand-in rider Howie Mainwaring finishing the day in 24th.
