Cadwell BSB: Byrne under lap record pace in final practice

Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne bettered his fastest time set in yesterday’s MCE British Superbike free practice, to go two tenths quicker in the final timed session at Cadwell Park.

Once again the multiple champion went under lap record pace this morning at the Lincolnshire track with a 1’26.357. JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam holds the outright and lap record at the circuit and improved by one second from Friday’s sessions to go P2, with a 1’26.380.

RAF Reserves Kawasaki’s Jake Dixon was again inside the top three and also lapped inside the 1’26’s, with both him and Haslam lapping exactly the same time, of a 1’26.380. The fastest rider in FP1, Smiths BMW’s Peter Hickman went 0.4s slower than Dixon, Haslam and Byrne who were all in the 1’26.3 club.

Moto Rapido Ducati’s John Hopkins was inside the top ten yesterday, but went one better today and propelled his red machine into the top five with a solid 1’26.896. Ellison, O’Halloran, Iddon, Laverty and Jackson all clocked times which meant they were in the top ten on the sheets.

Bridewell, Irwin, Reid, Linfoot and Brookes were the top 15 finishers. Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha’s Brookes admitted that they, “went the wrong way” with the settings on his R1 after his best time was only a 1’27.785 and they will be working hard to rectify any issues before qualifying.

There was one faller in the final free practice outing and that was Tyco BMW’s rookie rider, Andy Reid. But the Northern Irishman did set his quickest time of the weekend with a 1’27.785 to end the session in 13th. He was declared OK at the trackside and made his way back to the garages.
