Be Wiser Kawasaki’s Danny Buchan had a stellar MCE British Superbike qualifying session at Cadwell Park and even set the fastest lap times in Q1 and Q2, but he was pipped to the post by Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes in the final qualifying outing. But the Essex rider still did enough to place his ZX-10R on P2 for the first race on Sunday.
Buchan has not had the best of starts to his season and experienced a few DNF’s, but he is adamant that he’s turned a corner and has regained the confidence that he lost at the start of the year and is aiming for race wins tomorrow.
The reigning Pirelli National Superstock 1000 champ lapped a 1’26.892, and was only four tenths off the best time of Brookes in Q3, but admitted that he felt a ‘bit gutted’ that the Yamaha rider managed to bag the number one spot on the starting grid.
“I am feeling good and I am not counting my chickens yet and I have been P2 all weekend,” said Buchan, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track.
“I led the first two qualifying sessions and to be pipped at the last one is a bit gutting but Brookes has had the pace on me all weekend but I will be aiming for some champagne tomorrow.
“My crew have been working really well all weekend and my Kawasaki has been faultless. I want to get into the rhythm and see what I can do.
” I don’t feel pressure and I haven’t had the best of luck this year and I like to think this is a turning point for me, and if I can get on the podium twice then that would be great - my confidence is back.”
