RAF Kawasaki’s Ryan Vickers put on a sensational show at Cadwell Park on Friday afternoon, topping FP2 with an all-time circuit record thanks to his 1’25.816 lap.
Championship leader Jason O’Halloran was back at the sharp end at the close of play, sitting second in the combined times just three-tenths adrift of Friday’s best, with Hickman completing the top-three.
Glenn Irwin led the way as the afternoon action warmed up, the Honda rider refining his earlier efforts but running a-tenth down on Hickman’s morning best with Vickers the next to improve.
Tommy Bridewell took control on his Oxford Ducati with 10-minutes gone, 1’26.588 now the overall target. O’Halloran sat fourth in the session but sixth overall, with FP1’s hero already looking to mirror his FHO Racing’s morning pace, from fifth.
Andrew Irwin bettered to sit seventh in the combined times at the halfway stage, while Tarran Mackenzie and Xavi Fores suffered crashes as the mid-session unfolded.
Hickman was back in charge in the closing minutes thanks to a 1’26.344, O’Halloran claiming second just 0.03s back while Bridewell sat third, before Vickers struck with just over two minutes to go. The RAF rider dominated the standings with a 1’25.816 for a record-breaking lap of the Cadwell layout - previously set by Leon Haslam in 2018.
Christian Iddon, both Irwin brothers, Lee Jackson, Brad Ray, Josh Brookes, Rory Skinner and Dan Linfoot all secured their places in Saturday’s Superpicks 12 Q2 shootout with Gino Rea the first of the pack looking to proceed via the Q1 battle.
