Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon left the eighth round of the MCE British Superbike series feeling ‘frustrated’ as he felt at the start of the race weekend that he would be in the mix to challenge for podiums, but he came away from Cadwell Park with an eighth and fifth place finishes respectively.
But it is not all bad for the Stockport lad as he is still in with a shout of making it into the showdown and currently lies eighth in the overall standings. There is still all to play for heading in to the Silverstone round as only three points separate Iddon from seventh place Jake Dixon in the standings.
JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey still holds on to sixth at the moment but Iddon is only eight points adrift of a top six spot. Iddon started the race weekend off strongly and set a quick pace during the free practice sessions. But in the race he felt he was moving backwards and struggled with braking.
“Frustrating day, I probably had better pace throughout practice than any other weekend. I didn’t realise how weak we were on the brakes, that is something we have struggled with ever since I have got on this bike and as soon as I start to brake aggressively or late I go into all sorts of shapes and it becomes difficult,” said Iddon, speaking to bikesportnews.com
“Race one was particularly bad I was just a sitting duck and I wanted to move forward and it was a frustrating race and I was pegging myself backwards. A couple of podiums was what I thought we could manage here and then we changed a lot of things as a knee jerk reaction for race two.I think the problem was something that we hadn’t realised all weekend, that we don’t have the right way to enter a corner.
“We need the points, I made a mistake in the second race and I missed a gear and I didn’t have the pace to up the front group. A couple of points can make all the difference. We are still in the mix and I will go to Silverstone and give it everything that I have got.
“We have got a good connection with the team and we are all in it together, we knew it was going to be tough but we didn’t foresee how tough and for me to go backwards in a race is soul destroying. There will be some serious racing at Silverstone.”
