MAP Raceways Yamaha's Billy McConnell has blitzed the British Supersport field at Cadwell Park this afternoon and has crept to within two points of HM Plant's Steve Plater in the championship table.

After knocking off the throttle on the last lap, McConnell crossed the line more than two seconds ahead of Plater who, in turn, was a three seconds in front of JW Racing's James Westmoreland with McConnell's team mate AJ Venter in fourth.

Westmoreland got into Coppice corner first after McConnell was quickest away from the line and was followed by Gearlink Kawasaki's Ben Wilson and the Node4 Yamaha of Dan Linfoot in fourth.

Wilson tried to dive inside Westmoreland going into Park on lap one but missed a gear on the exit which allowed Westy to get back in front. Wilson's error also allowed Linfoot to push his way to second in front of McConnell.

On lap three, Wilson got it all sideways going over the Mountain and his chain came off which ended the local man's race while McConnell found a way past Linfoot and set off in pursuit of Westmoreland.

A big moment out of Mansfield on lap four for Linfoot saw Plater drive past out of the tight left-hander and Co-ordit Honda's Sam Lowes was able to close right in on the young Yorkshireman.

McConnell got past Westmoreland on the run into Charlie's on lap five and proceeded to cruise away from the field. Four laps later, Padgett's Honda's Ian Hutchinson also found a way past Linfoot but he was eventualy shuffled back eighth.

Venter began his rise through the pack on lap ten, getting past Lowes and closing in on Linfoot. Two laps later, Plater finally got past Westmoreland for second into Park Corner. Lap 13 saw Venter slide underneath Linfoot to take fourth place.
