Trickbits Racing’s Jon Simpson caused a major shake up in the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship at Cadwell this Bank Holiday weekend by taking his first pole of the season at the ninth round after replacing his Yamaha with a Triumph.
Simpson dominated both qualifying sessions and literally turned his 2009 season around, after his continuous struggle with the Yamaha Simpson has returned to his last years Triumph. Simpson who rode strong at club level last season on the UK manufactured bike intended to take on the British scene this year, but selected the R6 as the bike to go forward with which has done nothing but hold him back and caused him to finish constantly outside the points.
However its a completely different story this weekend and prior to race day he has been untouchable. Simpson said: “We thought the R6 was going to be the bike to have but I didn’t get along with it. It's a good bike, but doesn't suit my riding style. That’s why we have done club racing to get a lot of testing on the bike, I’ve won a couple of races, but as soon as I came to British I was nowhere."
"This weekend I have borrowed my Triumph from last year, off who I sold it to. We won’t be at Croft because we have run out of money, but at Silverstone and Oulton we will be on my Triumph, which at the moment is a road bike so we need to make the changes to that and I will sell the R6.”
Simpson is regular podium taker at club level and now on the right machinery it’s looking likely that he will be at British level to. Talking about his weekend so far at the Lincolnshire circuit and what’s next he said: “I knew we would go well because of my previously laptimes here, but never expected this. And yesterday in first qualifying was my fastest time so I know I can go faster.”
“This is my favourite track and I am just having a brilliant weekend. We’ve got a track day at Silverstone and I might do Rockingham in one of the last club meetings, but we will see. If it all works out then maybe next year on the Triumph we will see about the Superstock 600.”
