Cartagena test: Gowland blows off the cobwebs

Seton Yamaha's Graeme Gowland enjoyed a productive first day testing at the Cartagena Pro-Test and also his first outing on the Supersport R6 in 2013.

The Northumbrian was able to develop his middle-weight machine ahead of his title push in the upcoming Motorpoint British Supersport Championship which kicks off on April 7.

"It was nice to blow the cobwebs out and really get stuck in to things ahead of Brands Hatch in about a months time. Phil Seton and I sat down at the end of last year, after I rode in the last two rounds of the championship, and looked at areas where we could improve the bike," said Gowland.

"After this, the team and I went back and worked really hard over the winter and it quickly became clear the bike has improved and we have a good package ahead of 2013," said the former Spanish Supersport Champion, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening from the Spanish circuit.

"We altered suspension and had a look at a few other changes, which I'm really pleased about. Also, to have done a full day on a rear tyre is positive too, with tyre life essential when it comes to the start of the championship.

"We'll be trying a new tyre tomorrow and that is bound to give me a little bit more. The lap times weren't great today but there's no pressure on me from the team when it comes to times, and with three days of the test left, there's no point doing anything stupid on the first day. Without a doubt, setup come first and once that's where I want it to be, then we can push a bit harder and times will be a bonus."
