Reigning National Superstock 1000 Champion Richard Cooper has this morning been confirmed as switching from a potential British Superbke ride to the Oxford TAG Triumph Supersport team with Paul Young and Christian Iddon.
The diminutive Nottingham man had been in long talks with the Jentin Doodson Ducati squad but made the change to 600cc racing late on, saying he had wanted to try it for a while.
“It was a late deal to sign with Oxford TAG Triumph but it was by no means a second choice. I have wanted to try Supersport for a long time and I have to say a massive thank you to Rob and the rest of the team for the opportunity," said Cooper.
“To be involved with Oxford TAG Triumph based on what they achieved last year is fantastic as I feel this is a potential championship winning team. It’s not going to be easy but I’ll certainly be trying and hopefully I can get some top results for them. I’m also hoping that after waiting ten years for the first, championships are like buses and two will come along together."
Shaun Winfield makes the step up to the Supersport class proper after a couple of seasons in the Cup while Gary Winfield will have to wait until Snetterton for his debut as he doesn't turn 16 until just before round four.
