Team Maxxis Howie Mainwairing continued his straight runs of finishing within the top 20 since joining the team picking up another point at Croft, his second weekend in the MCE British Superbike championship.
The Frodsham rider was a regular points scorer in the Senior Superstock championship which put him tenth overall in the standings before he was given the opportunity to move up to Superbikes at Cadwell Park.
Mainwaring said: “I was enjoying the Superstock to be honest we were at the front all the time really, top six, top three and I really enjoyed riding the bike, the Kawasaki is a fantastic bike and the team were really nice. But when you get offered a Superbike opportunity you have to take it.”
Out of the four races from the last two rounds Mainwaring has already scored three championship points by finishing in the top fifteen twice proving that his time on track has been productive and promising in progressing forward for the remainder of the season.
Mainwaring said: “I am really enjoying it, it’s a big opportunity for me career wise but a bit different to what I am used to. The Superbike’s I rode when I was 16 were like a glorified Superstock bike, its very different.”
“We are working on changing the bike to suit me. We changed the bike quite a lot this weekend and are moving forward. I ride completely to David [Johnson] and the bike now is starting to feel like mine, we’ve enjoyed it to be honest. Our times are good but our positions don’t do us justice.”
Mainwaring intends to be in the paddock next year and if no further Superbike options are on the table he is likely to return to the Superstock 1000 probably on a Yamaha as he feels it is a easier bike to ride. His main focus however is the rest of 2009 of which he will continue in Superbikes pushing forward to beat his best 14th place finish so far.
