Mar-Train Yamaha’s Jack Kennedy took a comfortable Motorpoint British Supersport victory and with it reclaimed the Championship lead after Glen Richards crashed out.
Championship leader Richards took the holeshot but as the field entered Goddards for the first time, the front of the Smiths of Gloucester Triumph went from underneath him and he crashed out. With no time being set by the Aussie he will be on the back of the grid for tomorrow’s feature race.
Kennedy looked to take full advantage of this but had a lot to do after a terrible start left him in eighth after the first lap. The Dubliner battled through the pack though, taking Ben Wilson and then Christian Iddon at consecutive corners to take the lead. Iddon was able to go with Kennedy as the pair pulled out a 1.5 second advantage before the red flag was brought out.
It would be 5 laps to determine the winner and Kennedy, from pole position, once again got a poor start as he was shuffled back to fourth by the first corner. However, as he did minutes earlier, the Mar-Train Yamaha rider quickly made his way to the front and didn’t come under any other pressure for the remainder of the race to take victory.
Billy McConnell clinched second just ahead of Christian Iddon with Ben Wilson crashing out of a possible podium finish on the last lap. Glenn Irwin took his best finish of the year in fourth after a race long battle with Luke Mossey and Deane Brown, who picked up fifth and sixth. Pauli Pekkanen beat team-mate Luke Jones to seventh and Taylor Mackenzie took his best finish of the year in ninth. Sam Hornsey rounded out the top ten.
