MAP Raceways Yamaha team leader Billy McConnell reckons he needs to work on his starts to maximise good qualifying instead of going backwards when the lights go out in the British Supersport Championship races.
The experienced Aussie managed to work his way back from the front row to ninth at the start of yesterday's race at Donington park but managed to work his way back to fourth, and was then awarded third when Paul Young was disqualified.
“I didn’t get a great start and I dropped to ninth on the first lap. I then had to work my way back through and there are some guys out there who are a nightmare to pass so I had a lot of work to do," said McConnell.
“Unfortunately, that held me back and allowed the boys to get away. I could match Plater’s pace when he came through but I just couldn’t go with him. I’m looking forward to Thruxton now; I know all the same people will be there. I need to work on my starts as we can’t go doing a good job in every session for the start to let me down. I like Thruxton, I’ve been front row there and it makes for good racing.”
