Donington BSB: ‘Non-entity session’ for Iddon

Christian Iddon admitted today’s second free practice session didn’t benefit him or the team, despite ending the day second overall behind Leon Haslam.

The Tyco BMW rider only managed to finish 16th at the end of FP1 this morning, but as the rain let up heading into the afternoon, the drying Donington Tarmac left he and the Moneymore squad with difficult setup decisions.

And although Iddon found speed while avoiding running water across the notoriously testing Craner Curves, he feels the session didn’t do much for him.

“We first planned on going out with a full wet setup,” he told Bikesport News. “But when we saw there was a drying line, we knew we had to do something.

“We went for a half-and-half setup because we got it wrong in the first session, as in we didn’t go soft enough. We actually didn’t end up too far different than the first session where it was wrong.

“It’s funny in a session like that because you can’t replicate the conditions. It’s very hard to get a good sensation of what’s happening and whether the changes you’re making to the bike are having much effect.

“It was kind of a non-entity of a session, just good to get bike time really.”
