Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon finished the second MCE British Superbike race at Donington Park in third, and hailed his podium as ‘a long while coming’.
The Stockport native topped both free practice sessions on Friday in both wet and dry condtiions and was labelled as the ‘Showdown spoiler’ around the paddock.
Iddon ended race one inside the top ten in eighth and held on to finish back on the rostrum in the final outing at the Leicestershire track, and the last time he ended up spraying the champers was at round two of the series.
The S1000RR racer is ‘disappointed’ after not making it into the top six, but has found the extra pace that had been lacking slightly during the mid season, and admitted that there are still some areas in his performance that he needs to work on.
“It has been a long while coming. Since round two I have not been on the podium. It has been difficult and it was really disappointing not to get in the Showdown,” said Iddon, speaking at the track.
“It is nice to reward to team for all their hard work. We made a few littlie errors during the mid part of the season and the last few rounds we got it back and we got some reasonable pace. But it has not quite shown and it was good to show some of that.
“It was an interesting race as there are still a couple of areas that I am a bit weak ,so if we can work on those areas then happy days.”
