Race weekend facts, statistics and pub ammo for the 2020 BSB season opener at Donington Park

There are 11 previous BSB winners on the BSB grid this weekend. They have a combined total of 69 victories.

With 49 BSB victories to his name, Josh Brookes is the most successful rider on the grid. His closest rival is Peter Hickman with four victories.


With 321 BSB race starts, Peter Hickman will be the most experienced rider on the grid at Donington Park. He’s followed by Tommy Bridewell (275), Josh Brookes (251) and Dan Linfoot (217).

There are three BSB rookies in 2020: Graeme Irwin, Storm Stacey and Bjorn Estment.

Donington Park has hosted at least one round of the British Superbike Championship every year since the inaugural season in 1996, with the exception of 2010 when no round was held.

Donington has hosted 63 BSB races with those races seeing 21 different race winners and 44 different riders stand on the podium.

Scott Redding was the most recent winner at Donington Park, having taken all five race victories in 2019, three on the 1.9-mile National circuit (being used this weekend) and two on the 2.5-mile GP circuit.

The last two years at Donington Park have seen debut winners – Bradley Ray in 2018 and Scott Redding in 2019.

Josh Brookes and Bradley Ray are the only riders in this year’s entry to have previously won BSB races at Donington Park. Both have taken two victories, Brookes in 2012 and Ray in 2018.

The BSB lap record for the National circuit currently stands at 1m06.421s, 107.24mph and was set by Tommy Bridewell on 25th May 2019.

Shane Byrne has won more BSB races (8) at Donington than any other rider and is followed by Niall Mackenzie and John Reynolds (both 6), Scott Redding (5) and Chris Walker, Michael Rutter, Ryuichi Kiyonari and Leon Haslam (all 4).


Bradley Ray took his first and only BSB victories at Donington Park in 2018 when he took a double race victory.

Nine of the last ten BSB rounds at Donington Park have seen double victories – John Hopkins (2011), Josh Brookes (2012), Alex Lowes (2013), Ryuichi Kiyonari (2014), Shane Byrne (2016), Leon Haslam (2017), Bradley Ray (2018) and Scott Redding (2019).

John Reynolds and Shane Byrne have taken the most podiums (16) at Donington followed by Leon Haslam (12), Chris Walker (10), Niall Mackenzie and Steve Hislop (both 9) and Michael Rutter, James Haydon, and Ryuichi Kiyonari (all 8).

Out of this year’s entry, Josh Brookes has the most podiums at Donington Park (7).


Josh Brookes, Tommy Bridewell and Tarran Mackenzie are the only rider’s in this year’s entry that were on the podium at Donington Park in 2019.

Along with the above three riders, Dani Linfoot, Christian Iddon, Bradley Ray, Jason O’Halloran, Luke Mossey, Glenn Irwin and Tarran Mackenzie are the only other riders to have previously finished on the podium at Donington Park.

Hector Barbera made his BSB debut on the Donington Park National circuit last year taking a best finish of sixth which remains his best ever BSB result.

Danny Buchan had his worst meeting of the 2019 season at the Donington Park National circuit with two 11th’s and a 13th.

Dan Linfoot only finished one of the five races held at Donington Park in 2019, finishing 19th in the second race last October.

Luke Mossey is set to make his 125th BSB race start in the second race at Donington Park.

Lee Jackson will make his first BSB start this weekend since Brands Hatch in October 2017.

Ducati is the most successful manufacturer at Donington Park with 30 wins followed by Yamaha (11), Suzuki (8), Kawasaki (7), Honda (5) and BMW (2).

Suzuki last won at Donington in 2018 with Bradley Ray.

Kawasaki last won at Donington in 2017 with Leon Haslam.

BMW were last victorious at Donington in 2014 when Ryuichi Kiyonari won both races.

Alex Lowes’ double victory in 2013 is the last time Honda won at Donington.

James Ellison gave Yamaha their last victory at Donington in 2009.
